ChatGPT’s Office Suite Push Starts With Shared Workspaces, Pages and Slides

OpenAI’s ChatGPT office suite push puts shared workspaces, documents and presentations inside the chatbot. At its DevDay conference in San Francisco, the company announced Space, Pages and collaborative slides, extending ChatGPT into workplace software territory associated with Microsoft. Space brings files, coworkers and agents together

Space is a shared workspace inside ChatGPT where coworkers can work with the chatbot and their Dots, OpenAI’s AI agent personas. OpenAI describes it as a place for pages and files as well as collaboration on work tasks. Space is designed to bring those pieces together.

The more revealing detail is that a page in Space can receive instructions. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gave the example of asking a page to check a team channel and update itself with what it finds. That suggests a workspace where information can be acted on by agents, rather than a folder that simply stores files. Pages and Slides put creation inside ChatGPT

Pages is OpenAI’s document tool, described by the company as a new type of document built for collaboration between people and agents. Its stated uses include writing, research, generating charts, creating images and visualizing information. That combines document editing with tasks users might otherwise perform through separate tools, although the announcement does not establish how Pages compares feature by feature with Word or Google Docs. Collaborative slides extend the same idea to presentations: users can create slides by discussing them in ChatGPT, then have multiple workers and agents edit and comment. Together, Space, Pages and Slides map onto familiar office-suite work: shared files and tasks, documents, and presentations. But the announcement supports a narrower conclusion than a claim that OpenAI has matched Microsoft Office. It shows OpenAI putting collaborative work and agent activity into ChatGPT, while leaving detailed product comparisons and adoption unanswered.
